​YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Rachel Kennedy has been a dancer all her life and a Pilates Instructor for the last 15 years.

​

She was born and raised in Adelaide, SA. She began dancing at the age of 8 and after completing high school, attended the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Victoria. She graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance and for the next few years Rachel worked and traveled throughout the UK and Europe.  After an inspiring experience at the American Dance Festival in Durham, North Carolina in 1994 she moved on to work in Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA.



It was during her time as a member of the Pat Graney Company in Seattle, WA, USA, that Rachel had the opportunity to train as a Pilates Instructor.  She received her training at Balance Within Movement Studio under the direction of Gail Anderson. The training program consisted of 700 hours of lectures, observation and practice teaching over the course of a year. The program was based on the original Pilates method and the certification program Anderson undertook at The Pilates Center Boulder,CO,USA.



Rachel worked as an instructor at Balance Within Movement Studio until she moved to Vancouver BC Canada to live with her husband in 1999. In Vancouver she set up Vital Core Pilates Training, a small private training studio. She also taught at Meridian Pilates Studio and led workshops for industry professionals with director Heather Low. During this period in Vancouver Rachel also worked as an independent dancer and choreographer and was Director and Co-producer of Start Here. new dance, an evening of dance presented at the Roundhouse Community Theatre in downtown Vancouver in 2001.



Rachel was the owner and director of Axis Pilates, Surry Hills NSW, from 2002 –2009. She then moved to Adelaide in 2010 and now teaches Private lessons and small mat classes from her home studio in Fullarton and Wesley Uniting Church Hall in Kent Town.  She also participates in the classes for independent dance artists at Ausdance SA.



Rachel has always loved dance and is inspired by the ingenious system of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. Pilates and Dance are a perfect combination for Rachel and she feels honoured to share her love and knowledge for both to all her clients.
